Souhrida CordinatorState Resource Person (Life Skills)ÂThe Souhrida Club, an initiative of the Kerala Higher Secondary Board, was launched in our school in 2013. The club comprises first-year students as volunteers and members, providing a free service to the student community. Their primary objective is to identify students struggling with personal or academic issues and offer support.
The volunteers interact with their peer groups, and trained faculties from the Higher Secondary Directorate conduct awareness programs on reproductive health and mental health under the banner "Know Thyself." Plus-one students receive training on sex education, confidence-building, and motivation. Additionally, a training session is organized for parents of first-year students to foster a compassionate attitude towards adolescents.
To provide a safe and confidential space for students to share their concerns, a Dropbox is installed in the refreshing room. The coordinator reviews the submissions weekly, addresses the issues, and provides private counseling. If necessary, students are referred to clinical psychologists for professional advice.
The Souhrida Club celebrates Souhrida Day on November 25th, presenting skits on life skills that help students recognize and overcome challenges. This year, the school honored mothers of second-year students who excelled in curricular and extracurricular activities, acknowledging their sacrifices for their children's success.
Two representatives from each Souhrida Club in Kerala's higher secondary schools participate in a three-day residential course. This opportunity enables students to interact with peers from different schools and engage with professional trainers on mental health.
In conclusion, the Souhrida Club has been instrumental in promoting mental well-being, empathy, and compassion among higher secondary students. By providing a supportive ecosystem, training, and resources, the club has empowered students to overcome challenges and achieve their full potential. As the club continues to grow and evolve, its impact will undoubtedly be felt for years to come.
